Everyone thinks Vegas is just hot. Then January hits, a cold wind comes howling off the mountains, it actually rains for a day, and suddenly every park is empty and your kids are climbing the walls. Cold-and-wet days are real here — just rarer, so they catch you unprepared.
Good news: winter is the easy season for indoor play here. Cool, comfortable, and blessedly uncrowded. Here's the chilly-day plan.

Warm, easy, and often free
- Library storytimes. Warm, free, structured, and running all winter. The default cold-morning move.
- Rec-center open gyms & indoor pools. Burn the climbing-the-walls energy indoors. Indoor pools are a genuinely lovely winter surprise.
- Free in-store kids' workshops. A warm room and a take-home craft for zero dollars.
Worth paying for on a wet day
- Children's museums & discovery centers. Hours of indoor play, and far calmer in winter than during the summer crush.
- Indoor play cafes & trampoline parks. Big energy burners with the winter bonus of thin crowds.
Mom Math: winter is the underrated season
Flip your summer instincts. In July you race the heat to a morning outing; in winter you've got the whole day, mild temps, and short lines everywhere. The rare genuinely-cold or rainy day is the only time to default fully indoors — the rest of winter, a bundled-up morning park is often perfect.
