Free Activities for Kids in Las Vegas & Henderson (That Are Actually Worth It)

"Free things to do with kids" is the most-searched, least-honest category on the internet. Every list has the same twelve links. Almost none of them tell you the part that actually decides your morning: is there shade, is there a bathroom, and will parking make you cry.

So here's the free list from a mom who's actually done these with a toddler melting down at 9:47am — sorted the way you'd really think about it, with the Mom Math attached.

Free and air-conditioned (start here half the year)

In a city that spends four months above 100°, "free" matters less than "free and indoors."

• Library storytimes. Henderson and Clark County libraries run free weekly storytimes — songs, a craft, and a cool room. Bonus: the same families come every week, so it's also where friendships quietly start.
• Rec-center open gyms & drop-in play. The city rec centers are cheap-to-free, blessedly cold, and criminally underused by people who never find them. Your 110°-day lifeline.
• Free in-store kids' workshops. Home improvement and craft stores run free monthly kids' build/craft sessions. Air conditioning, a take-home project, zero dollars.

Free and outdoors (do these before 10am)

• Parks with real shade and real bathrooms. Henderson takes its parks seriously, and a handful clear the low-but-rarely-met bar of shade + working restroom. Morning is the whole strategy. Our Henderson things-to-do page flags which ones are worth it.
• Splash pads. Free water play, but go early — 9–10am is other-parents-who-planned o'clock; 2pm is a sunburn and a turf war.
• Self-guided freebies. The Ethel M cactus garden and a walk through certain nature preserves cost nothing and buy you a genuinely pleasant hour.

The Mom Math nobody prints

A free outing that costs you a meltdown, a sunburn, and a $6 emergency smoothie isn't free. Before you load the car, the only four questions that matter:

• Shade? In summer this is the whole game.
• Bathroom? A real one, ideally not a porta-potty in July.
• Parking? Close and free, or a quarter-mile hike with a diaper bag.
• Best time to go? Nearly every free win here is a morning win.
